About Copper CopperCopper allows for exciting, visually appealing buildings to be created without sacrificing the environment or efficiency. Why settle for bland, functional designs when you can have the best of both worlds?
Copper roofing is a very Traditional method of roofing and was traditionally used on the most important buildings i.e.; castles, churches and cathedrals, stately homes etc. When installed correctly copper will last more than a life time, up to approximately 120 years It is environmentally neutral and completely recyclable. It generally comes in the 3 colours that are the various stages of copper i.e; Natural copper, Pre-Oxidised (Brown) and Pre-patented (green) Natural copper will turn all three of these colours at some point during its life span, it will stay a bright shiny copper colour only as long as it is not exposed to the elements as this is when its natural patina will start to take effect, turning it a reddish brown and then a full brown until you start to see the green coming through. Finally it will 'Verdigris' (French word meaning to turn green, pronounced verdy - gree), this can take anything from 5 - 15 years dependant on how exposed to the elements the copper is. There are alternative colours such as Matt grey (tinned copper), Brass (reddish gold) and Bronze (reddish brown) As well as standing seam and batten roll roofing and cladding systems copper can also be applied as Shingle tiles or the more square shaped Rhomboid tile again these can be applied to both roofing and cladding systems providing the angle of the roof is steep enough as would be the case with general everyday stone tiles and slates.
